The Chevy Volt offers the benefits of driving an electric car without range anxiety. For shorter drives they are actually cheaper to drive than any CNG car.
The power on these cars will surprise you. While it only has 149 horsepower, the electric motor puts out 273 lb-ft of torque. With an electric motor you don't have to wait for the transmission to shift or the engine to rev up. You get instant, nearly silent acceleration.
The Volt charges at home using the included 120v charger. Or, charge it three times as fast with our optional 240v/120v charger, the TurboCord Dual. You can get a 30-50 mile range on electricity before the car will turn on the gasoline motor. Once it is on gasoline it still acts like a hybrid, shutting off the gas motor when not in use. The gasoline motor is not directly linked to the wheels. It acts as a generator, creating electricity to drive the electric motor.
Note: The original Chevrolet branded charger was lost and replaced with a Fiat branded 120v charger.
Chevy has really done their homework with these cars. The batteries are monitored very closely to keep them charging efficiently. They include an eight year / 100,000 miles warranty on the battery. There is also a five year / 100,000 mile powertrain warranty and three year / 36,000 bumper to bumper warranty.
The 2013 model added body colored roof and rear hatch panels, and the battery was slightly upgraded to give you a little more range on electricity.
Here in Utah we are usually paying about 3¢ per mile to drive it on electric power.
